A National South African Collaboration

Seeds of Transformation is an Ubuntu-inspired project that brings partner universities together around a shared purpose: to identify, share and grow the Foundation Phase success stories already flourishing across South Africa.

The project begins from the understanding that valuable knowledge is found in many places – within universities, classrooms, communities, projects and professional networks. By bringing this knowledge together, Seeds of Transformation supports learning across institutions and contributes to the improvement of Foundation Phase teacher education.

Vision Statement

Seeds of Transformation works towards system-wide improvement through collective knowledge stewardship. We believe meaningful transformation becomes possible when knowledge is shared, communities are connected and proven practices are given room to grow.

Our Purpose

Growing change together

Our purpose is to nurture innovation in Foundation Phase teacher education by:

  • supporting the development of a Postgraduate Diploma in Foundation Phase Teacher Education.
  • identifying promising practices, projects and people;
  • documenting their experiences through carefully developed case narratives;
  • curating and sharing knowledge across institutions;
  • connecting Foundation Phase teacher educators nationally;
  • creating opportunities for dialogue, collaboration and learning; and
  • supporting the development of a Postgraduate Diploma in Foundation Phase Teacher Education.

Our Guiding Spirit

Inspired by Ubuntu

Seeds of Transformation is grounded in the principle that knowledge grows through relationships. Ubuntu reminds us that progress is collective: we learn through one another, build with one another and strengthen the education system together.

This collaborative approach values diverse forms of knowledge, including disciplinary, indigenous and community knowledge. It also recognises the importance of creating solutions that are responsive to the lived realities of South African classrooms.

Our Long-Term Ambition

We aim to contribute to a connected, evidence-informed and contextually responsive Foundation Phase teacher education community. By nurturing existing innovations and making their lessons available to others, the project seeks to create sustainable change that extends beyond a single institution, programme or classroom.
